Experience hemp’s functions directly
Hemp material has naturally derived properties such as strength, antibacterial performance, deodorization, UV protection, moisture retention, and quick drying. Research indicates these come from both the components contained in the fibers and their structure (I will discuss this separately).
Among agriculture-derived fibers, hemp is known for exceptional durability, and as one of the oldest fibers used by humankind it long served where “strength” was required—most notably in fishing nets and fishing lines. Before the war, there was even an industry association dedicated to this field. The National Diet Library preserves a copy of the “Public Agreement Price Handbook for Hemp, Miscellaneous Fibers, Ship Supplies, and Fishing Nets and Gear” (published in 1941).
When considering how best to use hemp today, we arrived at a “multi-cover” that makes the most of hemp’s natural functionality: a versatile cloth you can use anywhere. It’s a simple idea, but whether as a tablecloth, a sofa cover, or a sheet, a durable fabric that feels good on the skin will always be comfortable. You can take it outdoors and spread it out as a ground cover; the qualities noted above make it easy to use, and we believe it will remain a faithful part of daily life without growing tiresome.
Optimizing fabric specifications
For this kind of (so-called) canvas fabric, single yarn (singles) is generally used. That is strong enough, but for this multi-cover we use two-ply (plied) yarn. Compared to a single yarn, twisting two singles together increases tensile strength to more than double. This multi-cover is a hemp two-ply canvas.

This robust “two-ply canvas spec” traces back to the “linen sheets” that Akai Corporation independently produced and delivered to evacuation centers during the 2011 earthquake.
