The future we imagine

What is weavearth?

"weave"
+ "earth" (earth, environment, earth)
= Textiles that nurture the earth

weavearth is
Not bound by conventional wisdom or customs,
With the environment and human rights at the center of our lives,
On the other side of the mass production and waste economy,
We are challenging the circular economy.

Materials made from regenerative agriculture that are kind to people and the environment

Utilizing linen and hemp, which have a low environmental impact during cultivation, we maximize the value of our products with the wisdom and design technology of a long-established hemp specialist with over 100 years of experience.

A timeless design, a product passed down through generations

We have moved away from the industry structure that creates a loop of mass waste through trend consumption, and instead strive to provide only what is truly necessary to make, pursuing a product-centered purpose in life.

Brand business operations that consider reducing environmental impact

All sewing threads are cotton. We plan to switch to non-plastic materials. We are mindful of the environmental impact and use the minimum amount of packaging necessary.

Designed based on the cycle of "repair," "collection," and "reuse"

We propose a shift from self-ownership to generational ownership (non-self-ownership) (more on Generational Ownership here ).

Seeing the products from the farm to their return to the soil

We produce our products from product lines that do not exploit the people involved, we support our customers until they have used up the products, and we take responsibility as manufacturers and even handle product collection.

From Linear Economy to Circular Economy

In order to reduce waste materials in the entire fiber production and consumption process, we will reexamine the essential environmentally-recyclable materials and incorporate the results of our research into our products. We will work to ensure that the circular production loop functions stably.

Our clues towards a circular economy

  • REGENERATIVE PROCESS

Towards a textile industry that embraces regeneration and circulation

The heavy burden that the fashion industry places on the global environment requires a fundamental solution. Therefore, as part of our social responsibility as an industry, we use plant-based fibers such as linen and hemp in all of our products. These hemp materials have a low environmental impact because they do not require pesticides or large amounts of water during the growing process, and they become a large source of absorption of greenhouse gases (CO2) through cultivation, and by continuing to grow them, they regenerate and improve the soil.

  • DURABILITY & LONGEVITY

Suitable for long-term use and enjoyment

Linen and hemp are very durable fibers that have been used in daily life for many years. Furthermore, as the fibers become looser with repeated use, they become softer to the touch. The greatest charm of these materials is that they become closer to your lifestyle as they age, and the attachment to them deepens as they age. And when you're done using them, they return to the earth.

  • OLD KNOWLEDGE, NEW IDEAS

A new challenge for the linen master

weavearth is a new challenge for AKAI Co., Ltd., which conveys the wisdom of linen materials that has been cultivated in Kyoto for over 100 years. Compared to other fibers, linen and hemp require skilled experience and insight to produce. By widely disseminating this knowledge, we hope to generate ideas for a sustainable textile industry and contribute to the future of society together with a variety of players.
