How do you do laundry? (The three basic steps)

Linen and hemp are made from different materials, but as both are made of hemp, there is no difference in the washing method.

1. Hand wash. 30 to 40 degrees Celsius is best. Use a neutral detergent.

2. Shape the item before hanging it out to dry. This will give it a nice finish after drying.

3. It dries better in the wind than in the sun.

If you want to know more, I'll explain in a bit more detail below.

・Why do you wash it by hand? Why not wash it in the washing machine?

You want to wash it in the washing machine, right? That's not to say that you absolutely can't do it no matter what! Washing in a washing machine is more likely to damage the stitching than the fibers themselves. Weavearth is designed with attention to the material and stitching strength, but the conditions of the washing machine drum when washing multiple items at the same time cannot be determined (the performance of washing machines varies). Some items may be subjected to heavy loads (for example, pulled) in the washing machine drum.

-Why do we shape clothes when drying them?

This is because it is easier to arrange them when storing them after drying. Even if you don't iron them, you can avoid some of the large wrinkles. It's probably easier to arrange all your laundry in order to make it easier to store later.

・Dry in the sun? Dry in the shade? Use a dryer? Which is best?

You can dry it in the sun, but natural fibers, including hemp, are not strong against sunlight. The color will fade easily and the fiber itself will deteriorate quickly.

Therefore, if you dry it in the sun, linen material dries relatively quickly, so once you confirm that it is dry, bring it in as quickly as possible. Please remember that leaving it in the sun for a long period of time can cause it to deteriorate.

Drying in the shade is a very gentle method that causes little damage. In this case, a well-ventilated environment is best. Linen materials will dry sufficiently with "shade drying + natural wind".

Dryers are a big cause of shrinkage. Heat and tumbling can damage the fibers, causing shrinkage. "Heat + tumble" drying can also cause a lot of damage to the fibers.

・I want to iron my clothes.

It used to be said that "hemp should be ironed with a high temperature iron." However, high temperatures can damage the fibers. The best way to iron clothes is to hang the clothes on a hanger and apply steam to remove wrinkles. The result is a very natural look. Many linen brand clothing items are displayed in stores in a similar way.

If you want to iron firmly, use steam and, if possible, use an ironing rack rather than a flat iron. Pressing with a flat iron is not recommended as it applies too much force and heat, but if you prefer this method, use a cloth to hold it in place.

Weavearth products are made using the latest material developments. There may be material properties that we are not yet aware of. If you have any problems with handling, please contact us at store@weav.earth.
