Flax, the raw material of linen, has been blessed with the sun, earth and water for thousands of years and bears fruit once a year. This year, it was harvested in northern France, Belgium and the Netherlands. In the 21st century, when humanity continues to develop outstanding science and technology, why has linen, a typical plant-derived fiber, survived without going out of fashion? As a linen lover, I can say that once you use it, you will be captivated by its texture and feel. It's strange how the more you use it, the more you love it.
It has been 110 years since our company started working with linen, and we are filled with gratitude for this wonderful opportunity. We would be delighted if we could share this joy with everyone, increase the number of linen lovers, and help alleviate even a little of the problems people face.

2022 Akai Corporation celebrates its 110th anniversary since its founding.

In 1891 , at the age of 12, our founder, Minetaro Akai, joined Hirota Chozaburo Shoten in Shinmachi-Sanjo, Kyoto, where he learned the business of linen thread and linen fabrics.

1912 "Akai Minetaro Shoten (now Akai Corporation)" is established.

1921: Japan's first full-scale linen factory, Kyoto Asa Orimono, begins operations in Yamashina, Kyoto.

1965As the linen spinning industry in Japan ceased operations, Kantaro Akai, the second generation, ordered Yaichiro Akai, the third generation, to procure materials from Europe. After much hardship, he developed many suppliers of high-quality raw materials.
